King Shaka’s KZN Mugg & Bean Bake-Off Finalist

One of the delights of working in an airport is the experience of the senses… and walking into a Mugg and Bean is a sense-sation of note!
The strong smells of coffee as well as the meals that look scrumptious and comforting are a welcome but most often, the smell that hits you as you walk through the ever bustling Mugg and Bean at King Shaka International Airport, is the sweet smell of something delectably divine baking in their ovens.
The baker who whips up most of these sweet delights goes by the name of Zona Christopher Shazi. It was no hassle at all finding Zona behind the kitchen counter at Mugg and Bean. There stood Zona, perfectly placing some chocolate flakes as a finishing touch on his masterfully made Millionaires Chocolate Caramel Cake.
Zona has been announced as the Kwa-Zulu Natal Finalist for the Mugg and Bean Bake Off which is set to take place in Johannesburg from the 16th to the 18th of August 2016.
When asked where his passion for baking stemmed from, Zona stated that he loved that he could create something with his hands that people could enjoy.
Having been a baker at Mugg and Bean since 2007, Zona has had a hand in baking many treats on the menu and on the cake stands daily… with all that baking, it’s no wonder that Zona was the obvious choice when his manager had entered him into the competition.
Zona also mentioned that he had been working at the airport for many years and had seen many airplanes land and take off, but did not have the opportunity to fly as yet.
He was nervous yet so excited at the opportunity he would get to finally board a plane and fly to the Bake-Off.
From the King Shaka International Airport Team, we would like to wish Zona all the best in the Mugg and Bean Bake-Off. Having tasted the amazing cakes he bakes, I can definitely say that he would be a tough competitor to beat! Good luck Zona and safe travels!
Zona’s baked goods are highly recommended and to all our visitors to King Shaka International Airport, you can find any of his treats right here at our very own Mugg and Bean!
