Long-Term Parking has a convenient new home at O.R. Tambo International Airport

O.R. Tambo International Airport will offer long-term travelers unprecedented parking convenience from 1 February 2018, when the long-term ‘Super South’ parking area moves to a new parkade home, just 500m from the airport’s terminals – and at the same cost, when using the online pre-booking facility.

Travelers utilising the existing long-term parking area currently need to wait for a shuttle bus, which can result in delays, due to high traffic volumes on the roads around the airport. The new long-term parking area, housed in the ‘MSP2’ parkade under the City Lodge hotel, offers 4 300 parking bays over 5 levels – just a five-minute walk from both the Domestic and International Terminals.

The long-term parking area is ideal for travelers who will be away for three days or more. By pre-booking a long-term parking spot via the ‘Book Parking Online’ link at www.airports.co.za, travelers can save up to 50% of their total parking fees by booking up to five days in advance. Discounts start at 10%, one day in advance, 20%, two days in advance and so on, up to the five-day maximum advance booking period. So by pre-booking your parking 5 days before you depart, you could get half your parking stay for free!

Travelers will be able to get a quote for their parking on the website and secure a spot (pending availability), as long as the booking is completed no later than 23:00 on the day before entry. Once their parking is pre-booked online, travelers simply need to insert the credit card used to make the booking to gain access into the pre-booked area. On their return, travelers need to ensure that they insert the same credit card they used to make their booking, into the reader at the exit boom, in order to be able to take advantage of the pre-booking discount.

“Offering a long-term parking solution within easy reach of the passenger terminals is a huge time – and money – saver for travelers,” says Abdul Khan, Senior Manager: Parking at Airports Company South Africa. “The pre-booking option guarantees travelers a parking at a discounted rate and significantly reduces the time spent getting to the terminal for their flights”.

Existing ‘Super South’ parking users will find that they will be able to access at least the same low rates as they’re currently paying – R55 per day and R25 per 12-hour period, or part thereof – and take advantage of this low price by booking up to five days in advance.

Travelers who wish to park in the dedicated long-term parking area without pre-booking can do so on Level -1, but will have to exceed a 3 day stay to qualify for long term rates. Once the stay has exceeded 3 days, the rate will recalculate to long term rates, the same as one would have paid at Super South.

Discounted pre-booked parking is already available in the MSP2 parkade on Level -2, so travelers who book their parking spot online at www.airports.co.za can start making use of the facility, immediately. The existing ‘Super South’ long-term parking area will be closed from 1 February 2018.
